Veteran Services
Veterans who are referred to us have SBE and other challenges from the Disabled Veteran’s Outreach Programs Specialists. We place them in temporary and temp to hire jobs. We are raising funds to address barriers that would prevent individuals from being able to accept a job placement. i.e., Funds for fuel to do job search or make it to an interview, to purchase clothing required for the job, or to obtain a certification needed (flagging or DPSST) to perform the job. The Veterans are eager and ready to work. Veterans want to be like everyone else, have a job and be able to support themselves. Jobs change lives by allowing the veteran to provide for themselves and fill them with hope and a future.
Often just a little coaching or training – sometimes of the prospective employee, sometimes of the employer, often both – is all that’s needed. It is a privilege and such a great joy when someone who has struggled so hard and so long finally gets that job. They just need training, support, and a few contacts, which is what we provide.
In the case of each of these individual’s stories, the systems in place to help these people failed them because it did not help them become truly independent and self-sufficient. BlueSun alone cannot address the barriers, including homelessness that faces so many vets, we do it through community partnerships. We partner with DVOPs and with other programs such as Community Outreach Homeless Veterans Transition Program to help our local homeless vets become employed and self-sufficient.
